The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “God led those before us away from Friday. The Jews had Saturday and the Christians Sunday. Then God brought us and guided us to Friday, making Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; in the same way they will follow us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of the people of this world, but the first on the Day of Resurrection to be judged before the rest of creation.” He also said: “The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday.”
Muslims repeat many supplications throughout Friday seeking their Lord’s pleasure. The article encourages frequent prayer between the afternoon and sunset prayers as a time when supplication is answered. These are among the prayers it offers:
O God, whose command is between the letters kaf and nun, and who is more merciful than a loving mother: make the reader of my message happy in both worlds and repentant when others are heedless. Forgive the mother who gave birth to them and the father who raised them well, and make the highest Paradise their dwelling. May God preserve the blessing of Friday for you for ages and clothe you in the light of mindfulness of Him. We ask for your prayers. A blessed Friday.
My Lord, on Friday You promised Your servants acceptance of their supplications. I pray for a heart close to mine: O God, grant them what they desire, grant their heart what it desires, and make them as You wish them to be. Decree this for them before You allow Friday’s sun to set.
May God make you happy in the hours of this blessed day, expand your provision, inspire you to remember Him, answer your prayer, increase His bounty to you, preserve your faith, support you with victory, be pleased with you and satisfy you with His love, keep you from the Fire, admit you to Paradise, guide you toward goodness, and protect you from His punishment.
O God, to You I extend my hands, and my longing for what You possess is great. Accept my repentance, have mercy on my weakness, forgive my sin, accept my excuse, and grant me a share of every good and a path to every good through Your mercy, Most Merciful of the merciful.
O God, none can guide whom You lead astray, give what You withhold, withhold what You give, expand what You contract, bring forward what You delay, or delay what You bring forward.
O God, You are forbearing and do not hasten; generous and do not withhold; mighty and cannot be humiliated; invincible and cannot be assailed; the protector who cannot be wronged. You have power over everything.
O God, do not deprive me of Your vast mercy, abundant blessings, encompassing well-being, or generous gifts. Do not withhold Your favors because of what is wrong in me, repay me according to my ugly deeds, or turn Your noble face away from me. By Your mercy, Most Merciful of the merciful.
O God, do not deprive me while I call upon You, or disappoint me while I hope in You. I ask You, remover of worry, dispeller of grief, answerer of the distressed, Merciful One of this world and the next: have mercy on me through Your mercy.
O God, to You I submit, in You I believe, upon You I rely, through You I contend, and to You I turn for judgment. Forgive what I have done and what I have yet to do, what I have concealed and what I have made public. You bring forward and You delay. There is no god but You, the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden. Upon You I rely, and You are Lord of the mighty throne.
