They Embraced Islam
Peace, God’s mercy, and blessings be upon you. How are you today? I hope you are well. Today we discuss a subject important to Muslims. Despite troubling news about Muslims around the world, we also hear good news of foreigners, Christians, and Jews embracing Islam and joining the Muslim community.
In the account reproduced by the article, Dr. Orivia says: “I am an obstetrician and gynecologist at an American hospital. An Arab Muslim woman came to give birth and was suffering labor pains. As my shift neared its end, I told her I would go home and another doctor would deliver her baby. She began crying intensely and repeating, ‘No, I do not want a man.’”
“I was surprised. Her husband explained that she did not want a man to enter and see her. Throughout her life, only her father, brothers, and uncles—her mahram relatives—had seen her face.”
“I laughed in surprise and told him, ‘I do not think there is a man in America who has not seen my face.’ I agreed to their request.”

I told her that many American women suffered internal infections and postpartum fever because they continued marital relations after childbirth, and advised abstaining for at least forty days. I also told her to eat properly and avoid physical exertion during those forty days, saying this followed the latest medical research.”
“The woman replied that Islam had already stated this: intercourse with a woman in the postpartum period was forbidden for forty days until she became ritually pure, and she was exempt from fasting and prayer.”
“I was astonished that our research had reached the same teachings after so many difficult experiments.”
“A pediatrician entered to check the baby and told the mother it was better for the newborn to sleep on its right side to regulate its heartbeat. The father replied that they placed the child on its right side following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. This surprised me too.”
“We had spent our lives reaching this knowledge, while they knew it through religion. I decided to learn about Islam, took a month’s leave, and traveled to another city with a large Islamic center.
