The Meteorology Department of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation yesterday issued the new system for weather alerts and warnings for severe weather conditions.
Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi, head of the Agricultural and Hydrological Forecasting Department at the Civil Aviation Meteorology Department, stated that the new system helps to convey detailed and useful weather information to citizens and residents about the upcoming weather conditions, their severity, and their impact on the country, as well as the likelihood of the weather phenomenon occurring. He explained that this application keeps pace with advanced countries in the field of meteorology and helps to easily convey information in a simplified and useful manner.
He pointed out that this system has not been used in the State of Kuwait before.
He noted that the Air Weather Forecasting Monitoring Department has developed a warning system in accordance with the unified protocol system for weather warnings of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
He explained that this system consists of two parts: weather alerts and warnings, where the first is a message indicating the possibility of weather factors developing to the point of causing a state of instability accompanied by severe weather phenomena, and the alert is usually issued 12 to 24 hours in advance. The weather warning is a message indicating the severe weather phenomena accompanying the expected weather instability, which will occur within 6 to 12 hours.
On another note, Sami Al-Othman, Acting Director of the Meteorology Department, said that the country was affected yesterday, Wednesday, and for the next 48 hours, by an increase in clouds accompanied by scattered rains that may be heavy and sometimes thundery.
Al-Othman added in a statement to KUNA that this condition is due to the region being affected by the extension of the seasonal Sudanese low-pressure system, which is accompanied by an air mass loaded with large amounts of water vapor, coinciding with a cold air mass accompanying a deep atmospheric low in the upper layers of the atmosphere, leading to the formation of these rainy clouds.
He expected that the clouds and the chance of rain will decrease starting tomorrow, Friday, and that the weather conditions will begin to improve starting next Saturday.
Regarding the weather today, Thursday, Al-Othman expected an increase in clouds with a chance of heavy rain, sometimes thundery, with a slight decrease in temperatures, making the weather relatively cold during the day, and the expected maximum temperature will range between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius.
