Saudi Arabia officially announced that pilgrims would stand at Arafat on Wednesday, 23 September 2015. The Supreme Court said in a statement: “The court met on Sunday evening, 29 Dhu al-Qadah 1436 AH, to consider reports from courts concerning sightings of the Dhu al-Hijjah crescent.” It added: “After reviewing and studying reports from courts and crescent-sighting committees across the kingdom, it became clear that no one had testified to seeing the crescent after sunset yesterday. In accordance with the Prophet’s saying, ‘If it is obscured from you, complete the count as thirty,’ agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, with this wording from al-Bukhari, the Supreme Court rules that the crescent was not established as sighted last night. Therefore, Monday, 14 September 2015, completes Dhu al-Qadah, and tomorrow, Tuesday, 15 September 2015, is the first of Dhu al-Hijjah 1436 AH. Standing at Arafat will be on Wednesday, 9 Dhu al-Hijjah, corresponding to 23 September 2015, and Eid al-Adha will be the following Thursday.”
