The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced that an Egyptian police officer was killed and two other policemen were injured on Thursday in an explosion in North Sinai, the stronghold of the Egyptian branch of the Islamic State group, which is engaged in fierce fighting against security forces.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the ministry said: “A police officer was martyred and a member and a conscript from the North Sinai Security Forces Directorate were injured (…) as a result of an explosive device planted by unknown individuals on one side of the Arish road” this morning.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
