Fabienne, a French model, is a 28-year-old woman who experienced a moment of enlightenment while immersed in a world of fame, allure, and noise. She quietly withdrew, leaving that world behind and went to Afghanistan to work as a nurse, caring for wounded Afghan mujahideen, amidst harsh conditions and a difficult life.
Fabienne says, "If it weren't for God's grace and mercy upon me, my life would have been wasted in a world where people degrade themselves to become mere animals, concerned only with satisfying their desires and instincts, devoid of values and principles."
Then she recounts her story:
"Since childhood, I always dreamed of being a volunteer nurse, working to alleviate the pain of sick children. As I grew older, my beauty and grace attracted attention, and everyone – including my family – encouraged me to abandon my childhood dream and use my beauty in a job that would bring me a lot of money, fame, and attention, and everything any teenager could dream of, and to do the impossible to achieve it.
The path ahead seemed easy – or so it appeared to me – and I quickly tasted the sweetness of fame, and I was overwhelmed with expensive gifts that I had never dreamed of owning.
But the price was high. First, I had to strip myself of my humanity. The condition for success and brilliance was to lose my sensitivity and feelings, abandon the modesty I was raised with, lose my intelligence, and stop trying to understand anything other than my body movements and the rhythms of music. I also had to deprive myself of all delicious foods and live on chemical vitamins, supplements, and stimulants, and above all, lose my feelings towards people – I would neither hate, nor love, nor reject anything."
