Halba Municipality cleaned stormwater channels beside the main road linking Halba and Kweikhat, on the outskirts of Sheikh Mohammed, in preparation for heavy rainfall. The work aims to prevent water from pooling on the road and channels overflowing with mud, waste oil and dirt into shops, properties and homes.
Mayor Said al-Halabi said the municipality’s maintenance and public-works crews were cleaning the channels on this important main road even though it lay outside the municipality’s boundaries and responsibilities. The work responded to residents affected by pools of water forming when rain falls along this stretch of more than 500 meters.
Residents and the thousands of drivers who use the road daily welcomed the initiative and thanked Halba Municipality for its attention and action. Maintenance of the road is the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works.
