After taking off from Mauritius for Paris, an Air France aircraft diverted to Kenya today following alarm over an object suspected to be a bomb.
The aircraft landed at Mombasa airport, which closed briefly because of the scare, disrupting other flights.
The Kenya Airports Authority tweeted: “The object, believed to be an explosive device, has been successfully removed from the aircraft.”
Air France confirmed to the German Press Agency, dpa, that the aircraft landed in Kenya this morning. Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides, and airport ground teams helped them reach accommodation. The airline planned to take them to Paris later.
The airline said in a statement: “Air France is working closely with the investigating authorities to establish precisely the source and nature of the threat.”
