President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi instructed the Defense and Local Development ministries to assess the engineering equipment in Alexandria governorate and prepare a comprehensive report within two weeks on its technical condition and the requirements and plan for restoring efficiency.
A governorate statement issued on Wednesday evening said the order formed part of urgent preparations for upcoming rainstorms, improving equipment readiness to prevent a repeat of earlier damage.
Acting governor Dr. Soad El-Kholy met the Northern Military Region’s engineering division and wastewater company leaders to discuss immediate solutions and preparations under the president’s instructions.
She said military engineering teams would inspect all central equipment in the governorate and its districts to establish technical condition and improve efficiency.
Agreed measures would be submitted promptly to Local Development Minister Dr. Ahmed Zaki Badr. They included purchasing mobile pumps mounted on pickup trucks for movement between crisis areas. The wastewater company would provide each district with a jetting or combined cleaning vehicle to clear street drains continuously throughout the day. Drains needing engineering repairs would also be treated.
Every establishment would undertake not to block the storm drain outside it. Violators would face closure and a formal report.
