Al Watan reported that, during the visit, Davutoglu would meet Qatari officials to strengthen the work of the Qatar–Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee and follow up on agreements signed at the leaders’ meeting in Doha last December during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit.
That meeting saw the signing of 17 agreements in fields including education, the environment, maritime navigation, energy, science and technology, and other areas.
According to Al Watan, the visit would also address energy cooperation as the two countries examine the possibility of Turkey importing more Qatari liquefied natural gas. They would discuss overcoming obstacles to completing the technical preparations for transporting Qatari gas to Turkey.
This is particularly relevant following the preliminary memorandum of understanding signed by Turkey’s pipeline company BOTAS and Qatar’s national oil company for regular, long-term Turkish imports of Qatari LNG.
The Qatari newspaper said Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s visit offered an opportunity to discuss renewable-energy cooperation, double bilateral trade and increase Turkish investment in Qatar.
Both sides were keen for Turkish companies to receive more projects connected with Qatar’s preparations to host the 2022 World Cup and its extensive urban expansion. They would also discuss encouraging Qatari investment in Turkey, especially in industry, healthcare, manufacturing, food products, building materials and services.
