Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdi Sanad Loza left Cairo International Airport for Skhirat, Morocco, to attend the signing of the Libyan-Libyan political agreement in place of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who was attending an expanded international meeting on Syria in New York the following day.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in an earlier statement that Shoukry had affirmed at the international Rome meeting that Egypt supported the Skhirat agreement to preserve Libya’s territorial unity and sovereignty.
He said the UN-sponsored agreement served the Libyan people’s interests, contributed to stability in Libya and the region, and strengthened the ability to fight terrorism. It would support coordination with the Libyan government and army and the provision of all forms of assistance against threats arising from terrorist organizations on Libyan territory.
