An Egyptian Transport Ministry delegation resolved the crisis involving Egyptian trucks stranded at Jordan’s Aqaba port for ten days.
Delegation head Sobhi Rabie, executive director of the ministry’s passenger transport agency, told the Middle East News Agency that Arab Bridge Maritime agreed to charter another vehicle-carrying ferry. The delegation visited Egyptian truck waiting areas at Al-Durrah on the Jordanian-Saudi border and Al-Rashidiyah to identify drivers’ problems.
Rabie said on Monday that he would later travel to Amman to meet Jordanian officials and establish measures preventing further congestion during agricultural export seasons to Gulf states through Nuweiba and Aqaba.
After drivers complained to Transport Minister Dr. Saad El-Geyoushi about lengthy waits at both ports, he sent a delegation comprising passenger and freight transport executive director Sobhi Rabie, ministerial office head Ahmed Atef, follow-up adviser Ibrahim Mansour, Roads and Bridges Authority land transport head Emad Mahmoud, and international cooperation unit director Ali Ibrahim. They met drivers in Egypt and Jordan to learn about their difficulties.
