An Iraqi security source said today that the security situation in Ramadi, which was calm today, came as a result of US military directives that called for postponing the assault on the city.
An officer in the Anbar police command, who declined to be named, told the German News Agency (dpa), “The plan for the Iraqi security forces for this Wednesday was to storm Ramadi from several axes and liberate it, but we received US military directives and plans to postpone the attack.”
The Iraqi officer indicated that this postponement was to avoid casualties among the security forces as well as among the civilians held hostage by ISIS in the center of Ramadi.
He added that, “According to information, in the coming days, Ramadi will be liberated with the participation of 200 soldiers from the US Special Forces.”
The Iraqi army had announced in a statement that the battle for Ramadi would continue for several days.
