Benghazi, December 31, 2015 (LANA) — Murad al-Shukri, director of the technical department at the Telecommunications Holding Company, denied reports circulating on news websites and social media that internet and telecommunications services would be cut off tomorrow, Friday, January 1, 2016.
In a statement to the Libyan News Agency, al-Shukri said tens of millions of internet users in many countries would face browsing problems at New Year, but the issue was not as alarming as some people suggested.
He explained that this did not mean telecommunications or internet services would stop entirely, and that the measure was intended to protect servers from hackers.
He said some internet users would have minor difficulties accessing secure websites because of the devices they use.
