Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem said Damascus was ready to participate in peace talks in Geneva.
He added: “We hope the dialogue succeeds in helping Syria and enabling it to have a national unity government.”
Al-Muallem spoke during a visit to Beijing, where he held talks with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
The Security Council unanimously approved a resolution on Friday supporting an international road map for a Syrian peace process, a rare display of unity among major powers since the conflict began and killed more than a quarter of a million people.
The United Nations plans to hold peace talks in Geneva toward the end of January.
Speaking in English to reporters during his Beijing visit, al-Muallem said he told Wang Yi that Syria was “ready to participate in Syrian-Syrian dialogue in Geneva without any external interference.”
He added: “Our delegation will be ready as soon as we receive a list of the opposition delegation.”
Friday’s resolution gives UN endorsement to a plan negotiated in Vienna calling for a ceasefire, talks between the Syrian government and opposition, and a timetable of roughly two years aimed at forming a unity government and holding elections.
