Tokyo Camii is located in Shibuya, Tokyo, the capital of Japan, and was built in the Ottoman style. It is sometimes called Tokyo Mosque or Yoyogi Mosque. The name “Camii” refers to its regular use for Friday congregational prayer.
Features of the Mosque
The mosque’s second incarnation was built in the traditional Ottoman style, making it an architectural landmark visited daily by Japanese people who want to see Ottoman architecture and learn about Islam. Part of the first floor contains an exhibition of Turkish heritage for Japanese visitors. The mosque accommodates about 2,000 worshippers, with a designated women’s prayer area on the upper floor.
